Thanksgiving is a time for togetherness... it's an occasion to be spent in the warm and loving company of family, loved ones and friends enjoying turkey roast and pumpkin pies with them. Thanksgiving is also an opportunity to renew the ties that bind us with the ones we love... it is a time for remembering, cherishing and being thankful for all the good things you have been blessed with. So it's time to say 'Happy Thanksgiving'

Thanksgiving Prayers and Psalms

Oh Lord, know that I am thankful for everything you gave me, for the challenges that made me think hard and work better. I'm also thankful for having such a loving creator.
The Thanksgiving Holiday is a time to share love with our family and friends. When the mind and body is overburdened and exhausted, proximity to the home and hearth proves the best and ultimate stress buster. The simple but significant act of gathering around the table to thank the Lord for his powerful blessings helps to reinstate our much dwindling faith. On this day, not just believers, but non believers as well join hands to pray and thank God for relieving them of their struggles, worries and supporting them in times of extreme pain.

Thankgiving Day Prayer

  • Heavenly Father, on Thanksgiving Day,
    We bow our hearts to You and pray.
    We give You thanks for all You've done
    Especially for the gift of Jesus, Your Son.
    For beauty in nature, Your glory we see
    For joy and health, friends and family,
    For daily provision, Your mercy and care
    These are the blessings You graciously share.
    So today we offer this response of praise
    With a promise to follow You all of our days.
    - Mary Fairchild

A Short Family Thanksgiving Prayer

  • Jesus, thank you for loving us;
    And providing food, shelter, and each other.
    Every moment of our lives is a gift;
    And we appreciate all the time You have given us.
    Thank you for all our good fortune.

A Thanksgiving Prayer by Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803-1882) who taught us the power of 'Self Reliance'

  • For each new morning with its light, For rest and shelter of the night, For health and food, For love and friends, For everything Thy goodness sends. Amen

Traditional Thanksgiving Hymn

  • We gather together to ask the Lord's blessing;
    He chastens and hastens his will to make known;
    The wicked oppressing now cease from distressing,
    Sing praises to his name: He forgets not his own.
    Beside us to guide us, our God with us joining,
    Ordaining, maintaining his kingdom divine;
    So from the beginning the fight we were winning;
    Thou, Lord, wast at our side, All glory be thine!
    We all do extol thee, thou leader triumphant,
    And pray that thou still our defender wilt be.
    Let thy congregation escape tribulation;
    Thy name be ever praised!
    O Lord, make us free!

Before Meal Prayers for Children

  • Be present at our table, Lord,
    Be here and everywhere adored.
    Thy creatures bless and grant that we
    May feast in paradise with Thee.
  • Great God, Thou Giver of all good,
    Accept our praise and bless our food.
    Grace, health, and strength to us afford
    Through Jesus Christ, our blessed Lord.

After Meal Prayers for Kids and all

  • Bless the Lord, O my soul; and all that is within me bless His holy name. Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all His benefits.

  • Accept, O Lord, our thankful praises
    For all Thy goodness did bestow;
    May it increase our faith and lead us
    Our praise by godly lives to show,
    That every deed and word may prove
    We trust and own our Father's love.

Catholic Thankgiving Prayer

  • Thank you God for all the wonderful blessings,
    For our daily meals, for clean drinking water,
    For sunlight and for the cool breeze.
    I'm thankful for my family, my husband, my friends, and my health.
    I'm thankful for my friends, to love and be loved and for freedom.
    I'm thankful to be employed;
    I'm thankful to be alive and praise you for all these wonders.
    I'm thankful that you have been so gracious
    To give your only Son to us
    Who gave his life and bore the UnbearableFor us sinners.
    On this Thanksgiving Day, I take the Opportunity to thank for countless other
    things you provide us with on a daily basis.

A special way to share your faith with your family and friends is to find a part of a Psalm that speaks to your heart and read it.

Psalm 23

  • Your holy spirit
    illuminates the dark places of the heart
    of your servant,
    with light like the sun.
    I look to the covenants made by men,
    worthless.Only your truth shines,
    and those who love it are wise
    and walk in the glow
    of your light.
    From darkness you raise hearts.
    Let light shine on your servant.
    Your light is everlasting.

Psalm 31:19

  • How great is your goodness, which you have stored up for those who fear you, which you bestow in the sight of men on those who take refuge in you.

Psalm 107:1

  • Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good; his love endures forever.
